Poetry Festival 2022
On June 14th and 15th, St Mary’s Celebrated its first ever Poetry Festival in school. For many years, St Mary’s has enjoyed partaking in the North Lincolnshire Music and Drama Festival and has always celebrated the arts in all their glory, through drama, art, poetry and music. Unfortunately, the North Lincolnshire Festival has not started again since the start of the pandemic and the school decided to hold its own festival in school.
The Festival was a huge success and many families joined the school to watch their children recite and perform their poems. Every child from age 4 to age 11 took part. In addition to the class poems, which children rehearsed and recited, some children chose to create their own ‘Jubilee’ themed poem, celebrating the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II. You can see copies of the wonderful poems the children created and, in the pictures you can see some of our performers cherishing their certificates.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Marjorie Grisdale and Mrs Maureen Settle, who both gave up their time to act as adjudicators during the festival and to Mrs McIntyre and the staff for organising and putting on the event.

Headteacher’s Welcome
Welcome to St Mary’s we have been proud to serve the Parish and Community of Brigg since 1966, we aim to provide an engaging, creative curriculum to challenge and motivate our pupils and enable them to participate in a range of high-quality learning opportunities. Our school is committed to using the teachings of Jesus to promote kindness, tolerance, respect, forgiveness and responsibility. Always celebrating the individual differences, we possess and allowing children to become independent and resilient.
We have a highly skilled and dedicated staff who work tirelessly to provide the best teaching and learning experience for each child, whilst carefully considering and supporting the social, emotional and spiritual development of all the children in our care.
We want our pupils to enjoy coming to school and to be enthusiastic about learning. We will nurture and encourage pupils and hopefully, inspire them to be active participants in their own development and education.
Our School Council gives the children a voice where their thoughts and ideas can be expressed and put into practice. Alongside the staff in the school, children play an integral role in the future developments and planning of our ever-evolving school community. An outward facing school, which thrives in working within the local community and dedicates lots of time to helping and supporting others.
Our ethos is built on the Catholic values and beliefs. We hope to develop positive, active learners who are prepared for their role in a rich and diverse society.
At St Mary’s we pride ourselves in our strong home/school relationships. We encourage an open-door policy, allowing parents and staff to meet whenever a need arises. We place a high value on establishing close links between home and the school so that we can effectively work together to achieve the best for your child.
We expect high standards of behaviour from all of our pupils, and ask parents to work in collaboration with us in maintaining and upholding the extremely high standards we set. These standards encompass uniform, behaviour and attendance and they combine to allow the children to thrive and flourish.
We are passionately committed to individual achievement, personal growth and the pursuit of excellence for every child. The school has a strong tradition of promoting the Arts. We are proud of our award-winning choir and our many successes in the Annual Brigg Music and Drama Festival.
We are now part of a multi- academy trust, known as CMAT (Catholic multi-academy trust)
based in Lincoln. This is named after St Thérèse of Lisieux another kind and gentle lady who
just wanted to help others a message and value we promote whole heartedly at St Mary’s,
We hope St Mary’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy enjoys a long and successful working relationship with you and your child.
Yours faithfully,
Mr James Leech
